Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (i.e. Confession or Penance) and the Sacrament of the Eucharist (Communion) provides both theological and practical instruction for those receiving these sacraments for the first time. This includes working with the families to play a part in the preparation of their children. Contact Anna Buckley to make arrangements for your child.
The First Communion program helps prepare children for First Communion not by simply informing them about Eucharist, but rather, by initiating them into the Body of Christ through the parish’s Sunday Celebration of the Eucharist at Mass.
The celebration of the Eucharist forms the heart and source of the parish’s faith life. All other activities flow from and return to the community’s sense of itself as a People of God who celebrate “the death of the Lord until He comes.”
When you, the parent, help your child prepare for First Communion, you in fact, are initiating him or her into the life of the Eucharistic Community of the Church.
As parents, then, your first task and privilege is to be models of the lived faith active in love. Children model the faith of the adults who are important to them, such as attending Mass on Sundays, praying daily and forgiving.
Hopefully, this year will be an opportunity, not only for you to share your own faith but an opportunity for you to lead and invite your child to grow in that faith, to grow in deeper relationship with God.
