Parish School of Religion (PSR)

The Parish School of Religion is part of the educational arm of the Lakewood Catholic Family, responsible for providing religious instruction (known as catechesis) to children attending public or non-Catholic private schools. In this collaborative effort between St. Luke, St. Clement, and St. James parishes, we serve around 150 students through evangelization and catechesis, seeking a deeper encounter with the Triune God.
Our program offers three models/options for families to choose how the would like to approach catechesis.
Option 1 – Traditional Classroom Model: Is probably the most common model. It meets weekly, typically on Monday evenings, throughout the academic year, where students will meet in-person. Students, by grade level, will come together and catechists impart faith based lessons based on the Spirit of Truth series. These sessions will take place at St. Luke Church on the 2nd floor of the old school building. To register for this program, please use the registration button on this page.

Option 2 – Family Model: This model will primarily take place at home. Parents, as the first formators of their children, will work together to impart faith based lessons. This model will primarily utilize the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies series, which has a primarily focus on the liturgical Year. Option 3 – Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: This model incorporates a “hands on” approach to catechesis and incorporates a variety of Montessori principles. This program meets weekly throughout the academic year on Monday and Wednesday Evenings. These sessions will take place at St. James Church in the Parish Center Atrium. Tuition

  • One Child – $80 (ONLY $60 THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS)
  • Two Children – $95 (ONLY $75 THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS)
  • Three or more Children – $110 (ONLY $90 THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS)

***THERE IS A $20 DISCOUNT ON TUITION UNTIL THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS.

Payment methods: 

Payments for Option 1 – Traditional Model can be made at St. Luke Parish.

  • Cash – If paying with cash please put payment in an envelope indicating the students name and program.
  • Check – Please make checks payable to St. Luke Church and write the student’s name and program in the memo box.

Payments for Option 2 – Family PSRModel and Option 3 – Catechesis of the Good Shepherd can be made at St. Clement Parish and St. James Parish.

  • Cash – If paying with cash please put payment in an envelope indicating the students name and program and to the attention of Colleen Houk.
  • Check – Please make checks payable to St. Clement Family PSR and write the student’s name and program in the memo box.

*Financial Aid is available to families in need. Please contact the Parish Catechetical Leader, Max Hall, to arrange for this.

** If your child is in a Sacramental Preparation class (7th & 8th Grade – Confirmation, 2nd Grade – First Communion/Reconciliation) then there is a separate additional cost. Please refer to the respective program page for registration and tuition costs.

***Payments are to be made each year, and in a timely fashion.

Class Cancellation Policy

If the Lakewood City School cancels school for the day then PSR classes/Sacramental Preparation classes will also be canceled. Should a storm arrive late, or inclement weather is forthcoming a notification will be sent to families via email. Please check the parish website for updates as well.

Dates & Location

Option 1: Traditional Model

Classes run through the academic year on Monday nights from 6:30pm -7:30pm in the St. Luke School Building.

You can gain entrance into the school building by using utilizing the sidewalk between the Church and the school building and using the Northernmost doors (the doors closest to Clifton Ave.)

Option 2: Family Model

This program primarily takes place at home. A complete calendar of program dates can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Colleen Houk.

Option 3: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Model

Classes run through the academic year on Monday and Wednesday nights in the St. James Parish Center – Atrium. Please contact Colleen Houk for more details.
