***PLEASE BE AWARE: Confirmation preparation is a 2-year process beginning in 7th grade. This is a new rule imposed by the diocese. 8th graders wishing to receive confirmation this year (2017) will not be penalized but will need to attend EVERY confirmation meeting.
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the sacrament of Christian Initiation that completes the grace given at Baptism. Confirmation perfects the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the baptized.
The candidate must have proof of Baptism from the Church in which this Sacrament was administered. If this sacrament has been administered here at St. Luke’s we will check the parish records. The candidate is asked during the preparation time and in life to do and have the following:
Who can be confirmed?
All the baptized may receive Confirmation. We confirm teens in the eighth grade, adults who are baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation, and those in the Christian Initiation (RCIA) process at Easter. The instruction looks a bit different for each group. See below for details.
Sponsors for Confirmation
The role of a sponsor is pivotal to the faith development of a confirmed person. Sponsors witness the Catholic faith to the baptized. Please see the sponsor information below for sponsor requirements. Certificates may be obtained from the parish you are registered at.
Eighth Grade Confirmation
Eighth grade Confirmation takes place each year in the Spring. It is facilitated by the parish and Parish Catechetical Leader. Formation starts in November of 7th grade and includes monthly meetings until conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation (usually in May). Contact Anna Buckley to make arrangements.
Catholic Adult Confirmation
Anyone above the 8th grade is generally prepared one-on-one or in small group sessions by one of the parish priests or staff members. They would be confirmed at the yearly parish celebration in May or at the cathedral on Pentecost. If you are a Catholic adult who has not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, please contact us to make arrangements.
Confirmation for RCIA Candidates
For non-Catholics (baptized or unbaptized) wishing to receive Confirmation, please visit our Christian Initiation (RCIA) page.
Those wishing to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation must meet the following requirements:
*If you have not been attending Mass regularly, or if your marriage is not recognized as valid, discuss this with one of our priests. We want to help you witness your faith to the person you are sponsoring!
Please contact the parish you are registered at to receive a sponsor certificate. Once you receive the certificate, you may give it to the staff member in charge of the sacramental preparation for the person you are sponsoring.
If you are a registered parishioner at St. Luke, please contact us.
