Parish School of Religion (PSR)
The Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish School of Religion is part of the educational arm of the parish community, responsible for providing religious instruction (known as catechesis) to children attending public or non-Catholic private schools. Through evangelization and catechesis, the young people in PSR are called to faithful living with their heart, hands, and mind.
The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament and a sacrifice. In the Holy Eucharist, under the appearances of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. It is at the student’s First Communion that he/she receives Christ’s body, blood, soul, and divinity, for the first time.
Confirmation is a spiritual, sacred and permanent sign or seal that marks the Christian as a witness of Christ through the action of the Holy Spirit. In the Diocese of Cleveland, students will traditionally begin this period of formation in the 7th grade and continue it through the 8th grade while receiving the sacrament in the 8th grade year.
